Two Sunflowers

Today is the anniversary of my dad’s death. It’s been thirty-five years since he left his body behind and began his expansive journey beyond being just my dad. At the time of his death, I was about two weeks shy of my thirty-fifth birthday. Now, I’m fast approaching my seventieth birthday. Half of my life had Dad in it as he flowed his aliveness through his human Boyce-body, followed by the next half spent experiencing his presence as a faithful, non-physical friend.

Sitting here in the dawn light, two giant sunflowers catch my eye. Their blossoms are wide open — directed like radar screens to catch the first…
